World Affairs Council Outreach Aims at Nashville Schools
The Tennessee World Affairs Council joined dozens of businesses and nonprofits that came together yesterday for the annual Pencil Foundation “Summit” to advance community support for Metro Nashville Public Schools.

IMPORTANT DATE CHANGE: Turkey Workshop Reset to Apr 14
The Tennessee World Affairs Council announced today that the “Spotlight on Turkey” teachers workshop, phase I of the program, has been rescheduled for April 14, 2012 (vice March 24, 2012). The change was made to permit registration of additional teachers, to reach the program minimum participation level. “Spotlight on Turkey” is a three part program offered by TN WAC and supported by a grant from the Turkish Cultural Foundation (TCF) in cooperation with the World Affairs Councils of America (WACA). It includes the spring teacher’s workshop (Apr 14) at Belmont University, Nashville; a study tour to Turkey (three teachers nominated by TN WAC); and an outreach program in the fall.

The Tennessee World Affairs Council is pleased to offer the “Spotlight on Turkey” program for the third year. Through this program the Council has been able to offer teacher workshops and study tours and community outreach in the subject area of Turkish culture, history, art, architecture, cuisine and more. The TN WAC participated in 2008 and 2009, and has been selected again for 2012. Check out this post for all the details!
Hot Topics – Taiwan Presidential Elections (Time Sensitive)
The Tennessee World Affairs Council is pleased to offer its members access to the World Affairs Councils of America (WACA) “HOT TOPICS” program. This current events learning resource provides access to specialists and individuals with insight and knowledge of the important issues of the day. This week WACA is hosting a “HOT TOPICS” conversation on the “Taiwan Presidential Elections: A Firsthand Experience” featuring the perspectives of the WACA Taiwan Leadership Delegation — WAC network representatives who traveled to Taiwan in October for special access briefings and visits.
Tennessee WAC Earns Spot in 2012 “Spotlight on Turkey” Program
PROGRAM FEATURES TEACHER WORKSHOP AND FUNDED STUDY TOUR TO TURKEY
The World Affairs Councils of America and the Turkish Cultural Foundation selected the Tennessee World Affairs Council to participate in the 2012 “Spotlight on Turkey” program. This will be TN WAC’s third year as a participant in an incredible opportunity for Tennessee teachers to attend a workshop in the spring, travel to Turkey in the summer and help organize outreach programs in the fall.
2011 International Outreach Program Features Saudi Students
The Tennessee World Affairs Council is pleased to announce the first event of the 2011 International Outreach Program featuring the country of Saudi Arabia and the students of the Saudi Student Club of Tennessee Tech University. The opening program of this outreach project is “International Night,” an annual event of the Cookeville Breakfast Rotary Club, set for January 29, 2011 in Cookeville, Tennessee.
Students Confer with Foggy Bottom
Students from Belmont University had an opportunity to discuss the prospects for ratification of the new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) with Assistant Secretary of State Rose Gottemoeller in a conference call on October 6, 2010. The opportunity was part of a State Department public outreach program aimed at sharing the Obama Administration’s vision for decreasing the threat of nuclear weapons in the world.
