The Tennessee World Affairs Council announced today that the “Spotlight on Turkey” teachers workshop, phase I of the program, and a prerequisite for the study tour to Turkey, has been rescheduled for April 14, 2012 (vice March 24, 2012). The change was made to permit registration of additional teachers, to reach the program minimum participation level.
“Spotlight on Turkey” is a three part program offered by TN WAC and supported by a grant from the Turkish Cultural Foundation (TCF) in cooperation with the World Affairs Councils of America (WACA). It includes the spring teacher’s workshop (Apr 14) at Belmont University, Nashville; a study tour to Turkey (three teachers nominated by TN WAC); and an outreach program in the fall.
Participation in the spring workshop is required for applications to the summer study tour to Turkey. The deadline for study tour applications has also been moved to April 14th.
The “Spotlight on Turkey” program provides an opportunity to explore Turkish history, art, architecture, culture, cuisine and more. The TN WAC teachers workshop features presentations on the history of Turkey by Professor Jeffrey Roberts, Tennessee Tech History Department Chair; discussion of on-line resources for teachers; a sumptuous lunch at a Turkish restaurant in Nashville; a documentary film about teachers participating in the Turkey study tour and a review of curriculum and tools for teachers to bring back to their classrooms.
Many more details are available on the TN WAC web site.
