2022 World Affairs Council of the Year
Network of Independent World Affairs Councils of America

TNWAC Weekly | May 18-24

Greetings World Affairs Council Members and Friends:

Everything Zooms.

Or so it seems.

Our World Affairs Council, like many other organizations, families and individuals has turned to the power of digital technology to stay connected, to get work done and to cope with the frustration of physical distancing while staying out of circulation. And we’re getting the swing of it. We host two Webinars every Tuesday and often have additional programs, like this week’s conversation with United Kingdom Consul General Andrew Staunton on the important UK-US relationship. It’s a program brought to you in partnership with the Nashville Chamber’s International Business Council, Baker Donelson, and Belmont’s Center for International Business.

This week our signature Webinar programs will provide commentary and analysis of the top five items in the news — the Tuesday, 2pm CT Global News Review — and our international affairs speakers program — the 7pm CT Global Dialogue. The former will feature Colleen Ryan — a Belmont Law student with an impressive collection of international affairs credentials — sitting in for Ambassador Dick Bowers. The latter will include a terrific panel talking about the “Future of American Diplomacy,” an initiative hosted at Harvard University and led by Ambassador Marcie Ries, who will lead the conversation in our panel. Don’t miss these great programs — registration links below.

In addition to the TNWAC Webinars and Podcasts you can get great value from the digital offerings of the World Affairs Councils of America network. TNWAC is a member of this group, the largest grassroots association devoted to informing citizens about the world. As such we’re part of the effort to share great international affairs programming. Every week we publish the WACA list of digital programs in our newsletter titled, “Virtual Globe.” You can see it on our TNWAC.org Web site or you can subscribe to our newsletter list so you don’t miss a thing.

Lastly, this week we’ll be talking about membership.  May is “Membership Month” at your World Affairs Council. We’ll be checking back with friends who have been TNWAC members and connected to our programs and we’ll be talking with new friends about joining with us to bring our community programs and resources on world affairs.

We are looking forward to having you onboard as we increase our outreach through our new digital programs and prepare for the coming season of educational outreach with our high school and university teacher and student friends.

Have a terrific week and please be safe and careful.

Patrick Ryan, President TNWAC
