The World Affairs Councils of America is pleased to present the “Cover to Cover” conference call series. GLOBAL EDUCATION OUTREACH | TENNESSEE GLOBAL SCHOLARS RECOGNIZED

Last Thursday, the World Affairs Council recognized four area students who qualified as the 2017 Tennessee Global Scholars. Congratulations to Olivia Connor (Martin Luther King Jr., Magnet HS); Amanda Boeing (John Overton Comprehensive HS); Kate Cunningham (Brentwood HS); and Grace McKennon (Hume-Fogg HS). Tennessee Global Scholars participate in extra-curricular global affairs awareness programs — such as Academic WorldQuest and the Sister Cities of Nashville Youth Advisory Board — during the school year to accumulate credit toward award of the certificate.  [Details]

CELEBRATE WORLD TRADE OVER LUNCH WITH TENNESSEE’S LEADERS IN INTERNATIONAL TRADE – MAY 17

Tennessee World Trade Week is a celebration of world trade and its positive impact on economic development in the State of Tennessee.  Originating in 1935, World Trade Week is an annual celebration held the third full week in May.  Trade organizations, businesses and other stakeholders come together both nationally and locally to promote and facilitate international trade in the U.S. economy.  The Tennessee District Export Council, U.S. Commercial Service, Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, and the Nashville Chamber of Commerce invite you to join them for a celebration luncheon featuring remarks by Governor Haslam on Wednesday, May 17, 2017.  In recognition of the importance of International Trade, Governor Haslam proclaimed May 2017 World Trade Month in Tennessee.   [Details]

“WHAT IN THE WORLD?” WEEKLY QUIZ

The World Affairs Council created the “What in the World?” Weekly Quiz to inspire interest in current affairs for our members and guests, and especially for students. Every Monday morning the quiz is posted on the Web site, on Facebook and distributed by email (to the “Quiz” sublist). At the end of the month a prize is given to one of the winners of the quizzes for the month. The quiz also serves as a resource for students and teacher-coaches participating in Academic WorldQuest and other educational endeavors. It provides a tool to keep students engaged in global affairs awareness and serves as a guide and source for the AWQ competition current event topic area. The questions on the quiz are drawn from the news reports shared on the @TNWAC Twitter feed marked by #TNWACquiz. Details [Global Scholar Credit]
