The World’s Game Comes to Nashville

“..playing the world’s sport, the Nashville way..” — Nashville SC Promo

Congratulations to John Ingram and the team of Tennesseans who succeeded in bringing Major League Soccer to Nashville. The announcement yesterday that MLS picked Music City for the 24th MLS team’s home is a welcome addition to a city on the rise. A global city.

The World Affairs Council works to educate and inspire our community about global affairs in pursuit of our mission “to promote international awareness, understanding and connections to enhance the region’s global stature and to prepare Tennesseans to thrive in our increasingly complex and connected world.”

And so we’re in full agreement with Nashville Mayor Megan Barry who said, at yesterday’s announcement ceremony, “We’re a diverse city. We’re an international city. We’re a major league sports city. And now we’re definitely a soccer city.”

Nashville is a place where we speak over 100 different languages, but we all speak the language of soccer.” — Don Garber, MLS Commissioner
