Hot Topics – Taiwan Presidential Elections (Time Sensitive)

The Tennessee World Affairs Council is pleased to offer its members access to the World Affairs Councils of America (WACA) “HOT TOPICS” program. This current events learning resource provides access to specialists and individuals with insight and knowledge of the important issues of the day. This week WACA is hosting a “HOT TOPICS” conversation on the “Taiwan Presidential Elections: A Firsthand Experience” featuring the perspectives of the WACA Taiwan Leadership Delegation — WAC network representatives who traveled to Taiwan in October for special access briefings and visits.

Student Study Tour to Azerbaijan for Essay Winners – Start Writing!

The Tennessee World Affairs Council is pleased to announce its participation in the 2012 National High School Essay Contest on the Republic of Azerbaijan, sponsored by the World Affairs Councils of America and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Ten students from the network of World Affairs Council, which includes the TN WAC, will be selected for a two-week study tour to the country of Azerbaijan this summer. The top three essays from Tennessee will be submitted to the World Affairs Councils of America in Washington to compete for the ten study tour slots. The deadline for essay submissions to the Tennessee World Affairs Council is March 1, 2012.

World Affairs Councils of America National Conference on CSPAN

The National Conference of the World Affairs Councils of America was held in Washington, DC, on Thursday and Friday (Nov 4-5, 2010). The scope and depth of the agenda (“U.S. Foreign Policy: Into the Next Decade”) and the quality of the speakers was remarkable. We’re pleased to note that the Friday sessions were recorded by CSPAN and are available on their web site (Links below). Additional materials from the conference including some transcripts and a complete set of audio recordings of the keynote addresses and plenary sessions will be available shortly.

National Conference Scholarships for Students, Young Professionals – Time Sensitive

FABULOUS OPPORTUNITY – ACT NOW! — The Tennessee World Affairs Council is pleased to announce a program to send students and young professionals to the 2010 World Affairs Councils of America (WACA) Annual Conference in Washington, DC, November 4-5, 2010. The National Board of WACA is offering 25 scholarships to cover registration fees ($525) and a $1000 award to cover transportation and lodging.

National Conference Update

The World Affairs Councils of America is hosting the annual conference in Washington on November 3-5, 2010 at the Mayflower Hotel. Ambassador Marc Grossman, WACA Chairman, announced today news of additions to the already impressive lineup of speakers. Director of the White House National Economic Council, Larry Summers, will be the keynote speaker at the Friday evening (Nov 5) closing dinner. Deputy Secretary of State Jim Steinberg will be the keynote speaker at the Friday morning session. The agenda already contains many speakers who will provide informative, provocative and useful information for all.
