Global Cities: Two of Top Fifty in Tennessee
Nashville and Memphis are among the “Top 50 Cities for Global Trade” in the United States according to a special report in “Global Trade” magazine. The survey ranked cities by their export volume and some earned additional superlatives. Nashville came in at #41 with $5.7 billion in international exports, with Canada, Mexico and Saudi Arabia ranking among the top international markets. Memphis ranked #24, with much of its $11.1 billion in export business being done with Camada, Mexico and China. Memphis also earned the superlative “Best Logistics Infrastructure.” The excerpts for Memphis and Nashville follow below. The conference commences at a very exciting time in Washington: one day after the election on Wednesday, November 7. If so, apply today to be the first-ever U.S. Youth Observer at the United Nations! The United Nations Association of the USA, in partnership with the U.S. Department of State, is currently accepting applications from individuals, ages 18-25, interested in serving as the inaugural U.S. Youth Observer this fall.
Event: Window on the World Festival – TTU – Apr 13-14
The 2012 Window on the World International Festival is set for April 13-14 at Tennessee Tech University. This is a must see event featuring entertainment, food, display booths, vendors and a symposium.
Event: International Business and the Nashville Economy
The Tennessee World Affairs Council is pleased to be among the organizations co-sponsoring a symposium examining international trade and investment in Nashville. The event is Belmont University’s 3rd Annual Center for International Business (CIB) Symposium and is set for this Thursday, March 29, 2012.

EVENT: Documentary screening at MTSU. This documentary examines the harsh realities behind the mounting water crisis from both local and global perspectives. Learn how politics, pollution and human rights are intertwined in this important issue that affects every being on Earth. The Teachers for Global Classrooms (TGC) Program provides a professional development opportunity for middle and high school teachers from the United States to participate in a program aimed at globalizing teaching and learning in their classrooms.
Event: Feb 28 Seminar to Explore the Role of Congress in Making Foreign Policy
The Constitution provides power to both the President and the Congress in making United States foreign policy but it is not always clear who has the decisive voice and how the process works. The role Congress plays will be examined in a seminar featuring Dr. George Ingram, Chairman Emeritus of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition and long time House Foreign Affairs Committee senior staffer. The seminar will be hosted at Belmont University on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 10 a.m.
HS Students/Teachers – Get Your “WorldQuest” Team Organized – Deadline Approaching
Academic WorldQuest is the flagship youth education program of the Tennessee World Affairs Council (TN WAC) and the national network of World Affairs Councils. It is a team game testing high school students’ knowledge of international affairs. The TN WAC is organizing a WorldQuest competition for Tennessee high school students to encourage global affairs awareness education. The Council will assist teams in preparation and organize the state championship match, hosted at Belmont University APRIL 1, 2012. The winning team in Tennessee will advance to the National Championship match in Washington (April 21, 2012), with transportation and lodging provided by the Tennessee Council. | Follow the post to details on AWQ.
