The Tennessee World Affairs Council is proud to be a member of the 90+ network of councils around the United States that work to bring global affairs awareness to our communities.

The Foreign Policy Association, the senior member of that network, offers numerous programs like the Great Decisions discussion program and more that benefit the councils and the communities we serve. This is one of them.

Foreign Policy Association: 2020 Great Decisions Teacher Training Institute

June 29th- July 3rd

Each year the Foreign Policy Association hosts the Great Decisions Teacher Training Institute which brings together dedicated high school teachers from across the United States. The Great Decisions Teacher Training Institute includes distinguished lectures and workshops that are geared towards introducing effective strategies for teaching foreign affairs in the classroom. Over the past twelve years, the Great Decisions Teacher Training Institute has proved to provide teachers with a rich source of tools.

The teachers selected for the Great Decisions Teacher Training Institute will bring a wide range of teaching experiences to the conference and represent the United States’ diverse demographics. The four-day program will be dedicated to:

o Strengthening skills in teaching global affairs
o Exploring ways to expand international studies in the classroom
o Building professional support networks
o Developing International Studies curriculum

This year’s Institute will be held in New York City from June 29th to July 3rd, 2020.

Application Deadline: Friday, March 13, 2020 ** 

Applicants will be notified by Friday, April 17, 2020

Teachers accepted into the Institute pay no fee for the program, meals, as well as hotel accommodations (hotel accommodation applies for educators who live outside of the tri-state area).
The Foreign Policy Association also provides a reimbursement of up to $300 USD for participant’s travel expenses.
