World Peace Day: Celebrating Global Unity in the Hills of Tennessee

World-Renowned Yoga Institute Uses Inner Peace as the First Step Toward World Peace

MCMINNVILLE, Tenn. (September 14, 2016) — On Sept. 24, Isha Foundation, an international nonprofit human service organization, will host its fourth annual World Peace Day at its classical yoga and meditation retreat on the Cumberland Plateau. The free, family-friendly event will be at Isha Institute of Inner Sciences, 951 Isha Lane, McMinnville, TN 37110, from 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Held in honor of the United Nations’ International Day of Peace, World Peace Day serves as a reminder that peace is not an ultimate goal but a fundamental requirement for individual and global well-being. Featured at the event will be beginner yoga and meditation sessions, guided hikes to scenic views, food booths, a vegetarian cooking class and activities for children.

Live performances can be heard throughout the day from international opera singer Travis Pratt, featured on “America’s Got Talent,” and Sounds of Isha playing eclectic fusion music.

In past years, World Peace Day has welcomed prominent speakers and musical acts, such as Arianna Huffington, Dr. Mark Hyman, Max Kennedy, The Mowgli’s and Isha’s founder, Sadhguru. This year, Isha is focusing on empowering individuals to take charge of their well-being with simple yoga practices anyone can do at home or the office. According to Sadhguru, yoga is a technology to improve one’s inner well-being.

“Without being capable of bringing peace into your own being, there is no way you are going to be capable of bringing peace to the world,” said Sadhguru on why the organization commemorates International Day of Peace.

Since the United Nations’ adoption of International Day of Peace in 2001, the Day has provided a global ceasefire and cessation of hostilities annually on Sept. 21. According to the UN resolution, the Day is pledged to “commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.”
