Event | Celebrate International Human Rights Day!

International Human Rights Day occurs every year to commemorate the ratification of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations on Dec 10, 1948. In Tennessee, Human Rights Day has become a day to reflect and look at lessons learned and battles won, while various human rights groups join forces and commit to creating an even better future. Tennessee will celebrate Human Rights Day on Dec 10, 2012, in Nashville. The day begins at 2pm, with exhibits by area human rights organizations. Then at 4:30, the presentations and awards will begin. Speakers will discuss various human rights topics related to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

The “Arab Spring” and the challenge it presents to American foreign policy and interests across North Africa and the Near East has raised new and complicated questions jumping out of the headlines. There could be no timelier topic for us to discuss than the tension between America and the Arab and Islamic worlds. We seek to understand these developments and how they impact U.S. interests in these important regions. The Tennessee World Affairs Council is pleased to announce it will partner with the Cookeville Breakfast Rotary Club to organize the 4th Annual International Night on Saturday, January 26, 2013. This year’s honored country is Japan, following on celebrations that featured India, Saudi Arabia and Germany.
