Manager, Programming and Development

The Tennessee World Affairs Council is the leading international affairs organization in the state, providing programs and resources for community and education outreach to inspire and inform the communities it serves to know the world.

Since 2007 the Council has provided visiting speaker programs including foreign ambassadors and other distinguished specialists, global affairs competitions for students, professional development events for teachers, discussion groups for individuals and organizations, global affairs teleconferences for members and many more opportunities for a curious public audience to engage in stimulating conversations about the world that matter.

The Tennessee World Affairs Council is a non-profit (501c3), nonpartisan education charity chartered in the State of Tennessee and open to all, with the mission of promoting “international awareness, understanding and connections to enhance the region’s global stature and to prepare Tennesseans to thrive in our increasingly complex and connected world.” The Council is one of 95 like-minded independent nonprofits that make up the network of World Affairs Councils of America. In January the Tennessee World Affairs Council was recognized by this network as “Council of the Month” for its program excellence.

The Council staff has been 100% volunteers since 2007 and now seeks to bring in a talented programming and development manager – Employee #001 – who is passionate about increasing global literacy in the community and serving as a key element in the expansion of the Council’s capabilities. It seeks to grow a workforce committed to the vision of a “well-informed community that thinks critically about the world and the impact of global events.”

The Council has strategic relationships with many organizations in the Nashville community especially Belmont University which hosts the Council’s office near its campus. The Council has a strong “working board” composed of community leaders representing academia, business, diplomatic and military careers and government leadership.

The World Affairs Council is an equal opportunity employer and seeks to demonstrate the strength of its workforce through diversity.
