TNWAC This Week
June 22, 2021
Dear Members and Friends:
This week the World Affairs Councils of America, the umbrella for the association of our over 90 independent councils, published our Weekly Quiz in their newsletter. We’re pleased to share our challenging test of global news awareness with our sister councils. [Link]
That milestone in the distribution of the quiz is a reminder that this fun, too hard, too easy, challenging, test of your global affairs awareness is available to you every Monday morning around 10am CT. Make sure you’re subscribed to our newsletter (and your personal preferences are set for the quiz — see the link below to reset your newsletter preferences).
Also, make sure that you’re a member of the Tennessee World Affairs Council. You can take the quiz regardless, but if you’re a member you are eligible to win the Quiz prize. Every week we list the top scorers of the previous week’s quiz. At the end of the month we pick one of those names out of a hat (spreadsheet) and award a prize — usually a new book on global affairs. Tip: most members are not quiz takers and most quiz takers are not members. So if you are both a member and a quiz taker you have a very good chance of winning the prize — that’s if you’re among the top scorers.
To do well on the quiz just takes some attention to the news. Not trivia news or celebrity news that you get from too many “news” outlets, but good, solid sources of news. Or you can follow our @TNWAC Twitter feed. We curate news articles there so you don’t have to scan a dozen or more authoritative sources. Just look for #WACquiz or follow our Twitter.
Here’s this week’s quiz [Link] [Hint: the answer to question 1 is B]. If you like the quizzes and can’t get enough we’ve archived years worth of the “What in the World? Weekly Quiz [Link]. News-nerds, enjoy!
Wishes for a safe and prosperous week ahead.
Sincerely,
Patrick W. Ryan

UNDERSTANDING US-RUSSIA RELATIONS AFTER THE SUMMIT
Five months into his Administration was viewed as very early for President Joe Biden to meet with Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin. But on the heels of relationship stabilizing visits at the G-7 and NATO summits and visits with European leaders it was on to Geneva for a meeting between the two leaders. Beyond the communique and press conferences what is ahead in the conflictive relationship between Washington (and Western allies) and Moscow? We’ve asked two experts on Russia to talk with you on July 13th at our Global Dialogue Webinar. Dr. Andrei Korobkov, Moscow native and Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Middle Tennessee State University; and Dr. Mark Katz, Professor at the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University will talk about the summit and the state of the relationship and they’ll take your questions. A CONVERSATION WITH RICK STEVES

This is a MUST SEE program and you can watch it on our YouTube.com/TNWAC channel [here] or listen on our Podcast, wherever you get your Pods and on SoundCloud.com/TNWAC. [More]
