Global Cities: Two of Top Fifty in Tennessee
Nashville and Memphis are among the “Top 50 Cities for Global Trade” in the United States according to a special report in “Global Trade” magazine. The survey ranked cities by their export volume and some earned additional superlatives. Nashville came in at #41 with $5.7 billion in international exports, with Canada, Mexico and Saudi Arabia ranking among the top international markets. Memphis ranked #24, with much of its $11.1 billion in export business being done with Camada, Mexico and China. Memphis also earned the superlative “Best Logistics Infrastructure.” The excerpts for Memphis and Nashville follow below. Tennessee WorldQuest Champs: Montgomery Bell Academy
Congratulations to the Montgomery Bell Academy Academic WorldQuest team on their victory in the 2012 Tennessee State Championship match today. Team members Jake Simons, John Mellow, McKay Proctor and Will Stewart, and coach Annie Williams will represent Tennessee at the World Affairs Councils of America national competition for WorldQuest at Georgetown University in Washington, DC on April 21, 2012. Well done to all the competitors today including teams from Cookeville High School, Stratford STEM Magnet High School, Hillsboro High School and Martin Luther King, Jr., Magnet High School.

Event: Feb 28 Seminar to Explore the Role of Congress in Making Foreign Policy
The Constitution provides power to both the President and the Congress in making United States foreign policy but it is not always clear who has the decisive voice and how the process works. The role Congress plays will be examined in a seminar featuring Dr. George Ingram, Chairman Emeritus of the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition and long time House Foreign Affairs Committee senior staffer. The seminar will be hosted at Belmont University on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 10 a.m.
HS Students/Teachers – Get Your “WorldQuest” Team Organized – Deadline Approaching
Academic WorldQuest is the flagship youth education program of the Tennessee World Affairs Council (TN WAC) and the national network of World Affairs Councils. It is a team game testing high school students’ knowledge of international affairs. The TN WAC is organizing a WorldQuest competition for Tennessee high school students to encourage global affairs awareness education. The Council will assist teams in preparation and organize the state championship match, hosted at Belmont University APRIL 1, 2012. HS Essay Contest – Winners to Tour Azerbaijan This Summer – Mar 1 Deadline
We are pleased to announce a National High School Essay Contest on the Republic of Azerbaijan in partnership with the World Affairs Councils of America (WACA) National Office and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation for the 2011-2012 year. Academic WorldQuest 2012 – Start a Team Today!
STATE-WIDE COMPETITION FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, TRIP TO WASHINGTON
The Tennessee World Affairs Council will host a state championship match of the Academic WorldQuest (AWQ) program on April 1, 2012. AWQ is an annual competition for high school students, four per team, that encourages learning about the world in preparation for an entertaining and rewarding match to capture the Tennessee title. The champion team will advance to the National competition in Washington, set for April 21, 2012. All of the details — signing up, preparing, competing — are on the TN WAC web site. Organize a team today and get ready to play AWQ in Nashville on April 1, 2012.
Student Study Tour to Azerbaijan for Essay Winners – Start Writing!
The Tennessee World Affairs Council is pleased to announce its participation in the 2012 National High School Essay Contest on the Republic of Azerbaijan, sponsored by the World Affairs Councils of America and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Ten students from the network of World Affairs Council, which includes the TN WAC, will be selected for a two-week study tour to the country of Azerbaijan this summer. The top three essays from Tennessee will be submitted to the World Affairs Councils of America in Washington to compete for the ten study tour slots. The deadline for essay submissions to the Tennessee World Affairs Council is March 1, 2012.
