The Tennessee World Affairs Council is a member of the 90+ network of World Affairs Councils of America. As such TN WAC members can participate in many opportunities open to the network. Hot Topics | Surveillance and the NSA – Gen. Hayden Conference Call

The World Affairs Councils of America’s “1918 Society” is hosting a “Hot Topics” conference call on Wednesday, August 7 (3:00pm-3:30pm EDT) with former CIA and former NSA director General Michael V. Hayden. The topic is “Understanding Data Surveillance, PRISM and the NSA.” The call is open to members of the WACA “1918 Society.”

Join the Nashville Chapter of the UN Association for their summer luncheon and lecture, “The U.S. and the United Nations: Friend or Foe,” with Tom Osborne, former ABC News reporter and UN Bureau Chief. The event is set for August 24th, 11:30-1:30 in Nashville.

Today Malala Yousafzai spoke. It was her 16th birthday and her audience was the United Nations General Assembly, Secretary General Mr Ban Ki-moon and a global audience through the YouTube video that went viral.. ..We’re sharing this with you today because you should know about her story. You should also know that the Tennessee World Affairs Council has two programs coming up that you should attend. They are film screenings of “Girl Rising” and “Not My Life.” They are both powerful documentaries that tell important stories from around the world and from not so far away.

In Memoriam | Amb Roscoe Suddarth (1935-2013)

The Tennessee World Affairs Council is sad to report the passing on June 29th of Ambassador Roscoe “Rocky” Suddarth, who was raised in Nashville and went on to a distinguished career as a Foreign Service Officer including service as U.S. Ambassador to Jordan. Suddarth’s career took him to many difficult assignments in the Middle East and North Africa during turbulent times in U.S. foreign policy history.

The World Affairs Councils of America (WACA) announced a “Hot Topics” conference call on North Korea set for April 24 at 12:00pm CDT (1pm EDT). The call features Dr. Abraham Kim, Vice President of the Korean Economic Institute of America (KEI) and speaker for the Future of Korea program.
