Kopp, Harwell, Barry and Johnson headline March 30th Leadership Luncheon

Nashville, TN – Rochelle Kopp, a leading authority on Japanese corporate culture and managing principal of Northern California-based Japan Intercultural Consulting, will keynote and moderate a panel of distinguished local political leaders at the 2nd Annual Women’s Leadership Forum and Networking Luncheon on March 30th from 11:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Cheekwood Botanic Garden and Museum of Art’s Massey Botanic Hall.

Beth Harwell, Speaker of the Tennessee House of Representatives; Megan Barry, Mayor of Nashville; and Mina Johnson, Councilwoman of the Metropolitan Council of Nashville and Davidson County headline the forum’s panel discussion, themed “Leadership Firsts: Accelerating Change, Advancing Opportunity.”

Intended to localize the global conversation on empowering women in the context of economic growth and opportunity, entrepreneurship and civic engagement, the forum is a program of the nonpartisan, nonprofit Japan-America Society of Tennessee (JAST). Online registration, limited to 150, is open through March 25th at https://jastwomen.eventbrite.com.

“We are thrilled to feature such inspiring leaders and panelists this year,” said Leigh Wieland, CEO of JAST. “As highly respected role models and agents for change, they exemplify the vitality that individuals of diverse backgrounds, talents and perspectives bring to responsible public and private sector leadership.”

Informal business networking and cultural enrichment are also featured to encourage both women and men in the state’s Japan-connected community to take a greater role in Japan-U.S. relations by being a force for positive change within their organizations and communities. It is an occasion to inspire future leaders, share new insights and build prosperous relationships.

The economies of Japan and Tennessee are closely intertwined. Japanese-owned firms in Tennessee directly employ nearly 50,000 state residents and, indirectly, support an additional 100,000 jobs. Japan has held the top position among the state’s international investors for decades, starting in the early 1980s with the location of Nissan Motor Manufacturing in Smyrna.

JAST’s Women’s Leadership Forum and Networking Luncheon is generously underwritten by Presenting Sponsor Nissan North America, Inc.; Key Sponsors Cheekwood, Nashville International Airport, Mitsui & Co. (USA), Inc., and the Tennessee Department of Economic & Community Development; and also by Event Patron Bridgestone Americas Trust Fund. Additional grant funding is provided by The Japan Foundation Center for Global Partnership through the National Association of Japan-America Societies.

JAST, a 501 (c) 3 not-for-profit corporation, was established in 2000 to create mutual economic benefit by facilitating prosperous relationships with Japan. Serving as honorary co-chairs of the Society are Consul General of Japan in Nashville Masami Kinefuchi and Governor of Tennessee Bill Haslam. The Society is governed by a 25-member volunteer Board of Directors and funded by corporate and individual membership contributions, grants, event sponsorships and program fees.
