2022 World Affairs Council of the Year
Network of Independent World Affairs Councils of America

Postcard from Kurdistan

On April 5th the World Affairs Council, in association with Lipscomb University, welcomed Kurdistan Regional Government Representative Bayan Sami Rahman to Nashville as part of our distinguished visiting speaker program.  The standing room only audience learned about the challenges facing the people of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and its close relationship with the United States. They also learned that Nashville is home to the largest community of Kurdish people in North America.

Today we saw Representative Bayan share a Tweet from Kurdistan where she is visiting and noted the link she provided to a video that provides dramatic aerial views of Kurdistan’s capital city Erbil. The city, home to about 1.6 million people is located about 220 miles north of Baghdad.

We are pleased to share the video with you to provide additional context to the conversation we had about the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
