Dear Friends:
On behalf of TNWAC Chairman Karl Dean, the Council Board of Directors, our staff and volunteers and our many partners, sponsors and members, let me wish you happy holidays and hopes for a healthy and prosperous new year.
This has been a momentous year for the World Affairs Council, with a transition in leadership, and a momentous time in global affairs. Our fellow citizens are challenged to keep up with new, fast-paced, consequential developments around the world.
The litany of global troubles seems unending: war in Europe, barbaric terrorism and catastrophic war in the Middle East, a new cold war in Asia, unabated climate change effects, lessening resolve in containing nuclear weapons proliferation, civil wars, failing states, the rise of autocrats and the challenge to the global order — all requiring American leadership and resolve to address. We believe our roles as citizens include understanding these challenges and being participants in citizen diplomacy.
I hope you have found in the Tennessee World Affairs Council a place where you can find unbiased and reliable conversations about important global issues. That is our educational role in the community and we will continue it, with your help and participation, into the new year.
As we bring 2023 to a close and celebrate our faiths and our holidays may I again extend best wishes from our families to yours for seasons greetings and happy holidays.
