He was elected in 2007 and re-elected in 2011. Dean first held public office when he was elected as Nashville’s Public Defender in 1990. He was re-elected in 1994 and 1998. He served as Metro Law Director from 1999 to January 2007\, when he resigned to run for the office of mayor. Karl Dean has taught at Vanderbilt Law School\, Belmont University\, and Boston University. \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nFeatured Speaker: Seth Bernstein (President & Chief Executive Officer\, AllianceBernstein)\n \nSeth Bernstein is the Chief Executive Officer of AllianceBernstein (AB)\, a role he has held since 2017. \nIn 2018\, he was appointed Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Asset Management of Equitable Holdings. From 2017-2025\, he also served as the firm’s President. \nPrior to his appointment at AB\, Bernstein had a distinguished 32-year career at JPMorgan Chase\, most recently as managing director and global head of Managed Solutions & Strategy at J.P. Morgan Asset Management. In this role\, he was responsible for managing all discretionary assets within the Private Banking client segment. Among other roles\, Bernstein served as managing director and global head of Fixed Income & Currency for 10 years\, concluding in 2012. Prior to that\, he served as CFO of JPMorgan Chase’s Investment Management and Private Banking division. Bernstein holds a BA in political science and economics from Haverford College. He is Vice-Chair of Haverford College’s Board of Managers and the Clerk of the board’s Investment Committee. Bernstein is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations in New York\, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Brookings Institution\, and a governor of the Investment Company Institute\, all in Washington\, DC. In addition\, he serves as a trustee of Cheekwood Estate & Gardens in Nashville\, TN.
