Kurt Butefish is Coordinator for the not-for-profit Tennessee Geographic Alliance (TGA) www.tngeographicalliance.org , whose primary mission is to advance geographic literacy in Tennessee.  The Alliance is housed in the Department of Geography at the University of Tennessee.  He has BA (1984) and MS (1986) degrees in Geography from the University of Tennessee.  Kurt became TGA Coordinator in June 2000 after 14 years in business development at the Intergraph Corporation.  Kurt is currently serving his second, four-year term as the Executive Director of the Tennessee Council for the Social Studies and has been a member of their Board of Directors since 2002.  He is an elected member of the Tennessee Geographic Information Council (TNGIC) Board of Directors which is the largest organization in the state representing GIS professionals.
